Francesca Battersby

Associate Policy Lead

Based in London, Francesca is an Associate Policy Lead at Carbon Gap. She contributes to policy development and advocacy in the UK and EU, across diverse and sometimes overlapping topics. Her areas of expertise include financing mechanisms for CDR across the innovation lifecycle and the development of CDR compliance markets.

At Carbon Gap, Francesca has conducted work on public procurement of CDR, integration of CDR into emissions trading systems, “use cases” for CDR, standards and methodologies for CDR projects, and on Carbon Gap’s Policy Tracker.

Francesca has been in the climate and sustainability space since 2020. Before joining Carbon Gap, she worked as a Research Assistant at Imperial College London, and as a sustainability consultant at dss+, where she supported clients with CDR, as well as with wider topics related to waste and circular economy. Francesca previously chaired the CO2RE Future Leaders Network, a network of 200+ early career professionals working on greenhouse gas removal.

Francesca holds a BSc in Natural Sciences from Durham University and an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College London.
