Valter Selén

Associate Policy Director

Valter Selén is an Associate Policy Director at Carbon Gap. His mission is to help make Europe the leader in integrating carbon removals through the development of Carbon Gap’s advocacy strategy in Brussels and Europe. This involves establishing contacts in European countries and creating partnerships and joint initiatives with key national and local players.

Valter is responsible for Carbon Gap’s Policy Tracker, a flagship initiative tracking carbon removal progress across Europe to help the CDR community navigate a rapidly changing policy landscape.

Leveraging his Swedish nationality, Valter is especially focused on increasing Carbon Gap’s presence in the Nordics, a region that is ahead of the curve when it comes to deploying carbon removal initiatives in Europe.

Having moved to Brussels in 2019, Valter has long-standing experience in working in the EU climate sphere, developing legislation for maritime decarbonisation with the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) and the European Commission. Valter holds a double master’s degree in European Governance from the University of Utrecht and Konstanz University.
