Setting the course for novel marine carbon removal in Europe
Leading up to the carbon removal expert group, Carbon Gap will be presenting its new publication, laying out a pathway towards the responsible development of of novel marine carbon dioxide removal.
On 5 November in Brussels, we will be exploring a pathway for the responsible development and certification of novel mCDR in Europe. To steer the discussion, we will be presenting a roadmap laying out the steps needed.
This event will bring together academics, policymakers, and industry players to take stock of the current state of novel mCDR and what the EU needs to do to capitalise on its potential for developing these methods responsibly.
Europe is at a crucial junction. Novel mCDR can significantly strengthen the EU’s CDR potfolio, but the Commission needs to balance two risks: rushing ahead while some uncertainties remain on these nascent technologies, or getting stuck, further delaying and stalling the crucial innovation needed to move these methods forward.
