Setting the Course for novel marine carbon removal in Europe
Leading up to the carbon removal expert group, Carbon Gap will be presenting its new publication, laying out a pathway towards the responsible development of Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE) and Direct Ocean Carbon Capture and Storage (DOCCS) in Europe.
On 5 November in Brussels, we will be exploring a pathway for the responsible development and certification of novel mCDR in Europe. To steer the discussion, we will be presenting a roadmap for the responsible development and certification of OAE and DOCCS in Europe.
This event will bring together academics, policymakers, and industry players for a conversation on where we are with mCDR and what the EU needs to do to capitalise on its huge mCDR potential.
Europe is at a crucial junction, either it rushes ahead while some uncertainties remain on these nascent technologies, , or it remains inactive, further delaying and stalling the crucial innovation it needs to move these methods forward. The key is in balancing these two risks: harnessing the potential of marine CDR without getting ahead of the science.
